For the EDGE Project, some obligations came up that I had to attend so my schedule changed a bit. However, I was able to talk with TURN Community Services and attend other things so that I was able to get in all the hours I needed for the EDGE project and experience so different things! The journal entrees and deliverables are below:
March 17th: 2:30-8:00- Special Olympic Root Beer Float Fundraiser (For this, I was able to go to Harmon's in St. George with the clients and ask for Special Olympic Fundraising! It was so much fun and a great experience to be in the community for this great cause. I learned how important it was to help the clients be apart of the community. The clients felt so special after this experience because they were able to talk with so many people. )
March 22nd: 3:30-5:00- Track and Field practice (For practice, I was in charge. I helped them stretch, time them and help them practice their track races and field events like their throws! I learned more about the difference events and also how to better encourage the clients to run and be excited about practicing their events.)
March 25th: 1:30-8:00- Special Olympic Root Beer Float Fundraiser (I was able to do this twice! This time I learned the importance of raising money for a non-profit association. It was a great experience and I would want to donate to this great cause as well.)
March 29th: 3:30-5:00- Track and Field practice
April 5th: 3:30-5:00- Track and Field practice
April 12th: 3:30-5:00- Track and Field practice
April 19th: 4:00-5:00- Track and Field practice
April 26th: 3:30-5:00- Track and Field practice
May 3rd: 3:30-5:00- Track and Field practice
May 12th: 7:00-3:00- Region Competition (This was in St. George and we were able to finally watch the clients compete. They did great! I was able to help check them in, cheer them on, and watch them receive their medals. I learned how interact with the clients better and how important encouragement is for them.)
May 17th: 4:00-5:00- Track and Field practice
May 24th: 4:00-5:00- Track and Field practice
June 1st: 12:00-5:00- pm State Competition (As stated above, I was not able to attend this as long as I would have liked, however, I was still able to go. For this my main requirement was to help the clients at what is called Healthy Athletes. This is a place where they can come in between their events and get checked out by doctors for free! I was in charge of making sure that all the clients got to their certain area. I felt a lot of responsibility but I learned to be organized in order to keep track of all the clients.)
June 2nd: 7:00 am-4:00 pm- State Competition (This day I was able to watch most of the races and cheer on the clients in their events! Today I learned how to focus on the clients to make them feel special instead of myself.)
